A public water district facing a massive energy draw from its pumping stations, with almost no spare land to put an array on.
A custom-engineered solar canopy structure built over an existing reservoir — a floatovoltaic-style deployment that used water the district already owned as the site.
2.5 MW of generation plus reduced reservoir evaporation — a dual-purpose asset from a footprint that cost the district nothing new.
Pumping stations are relentless energy consumers, and this district's power bill reflected it. The obvious fix — a ground array — ran straight into the obvious problem: there was no land to spare that wasn't already doing a job.
The water was the answer. We engineered a canopy structure over an existing reservoir and hung 2.5 MW of PV from it. The array shades the water it sits above, which cuts evaporation loss, so a single structure now does two jobs the district was paying for separately.
It is the kind of deployment that only happens when the contractor stays focused on the production numbers instead of the easy install. There was no easy install here — which is exactly why it works.
